O Oriens,
splendor lucis aeternae, et sol justitiae:
veni, et illumina sedentes in tenebris, et umbra mortis.O Morning Star,
splendour of light eternal and sun of righteousness:
Come and enlighten those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death.
The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;
those who lived in a land of deep darkness—
on them light has shined.(Isaiah 9:1)
O come, Lord Jesus, come and save your people, for we grieve for what we cannot remember, and our hearts are broken for what we have never seen. We are full of emptiness, and all our days are dark. Come Lord, for all we have loved is broken, and the night is so very cold.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,
have mercy on me, a sinner…
