Tag Cloud

In case anyone hasn’t noticed, the Blogger platform has given us a neat way of incorporating a tag cloud in our blog pages. If you look below the “About me” section on this page, under the “Blog Archive” or list of recent posts, you’ll see mine. (By default, the gadget is called “labels” when you first add it. I thought that was a bit underwhelming, so I’ve called mine what it is…)

Where do you find this feature - in the template?

Click "Customise" in the top bar, Lee, then the "Layout" tab. In the sidebar of the "Edit Layout" page click the appropriate "Add a Gadget" link for the area you want your tag cloud to appear in. Choose "Labels" from the list of gadgets. In the dialogue box that appears, ensure you've clicked the radio button for "Cloud" not "List", and rename the gadget (in the "Title" field) to something more imaginative than "Labels". Job done.

Hope you like it!

Ah, you have to have the new blogger template. My template is in the old blogger format - no Lyout tab - which means I have to update it. But there's that ominous warning that you may lose things when you change - I'm terrified of losing links, etc.

I'm just technophobic, I guess.

How about downloading the template to your own HD first? (Link at top of "edit HTML" section.) Then if the worst comes to the worst, you can always put it back like it was...

Personally, I had no trouble at all when I switched to the new format. I've always regarded the dire warnings as just-in-case self protection on Blogger's part!

Mike, thanks for the instructions. Maybe I'll be able to figure this out. . . .
